I have an episode called "The Prison Within". I understand that Video Cellar can't find info on this. If he doesn't know how can I find out? The copy I have has a publication date of 1955, but no copyright notice.

My big books of copyright registrations say that the Dupont Theatre shows were registered for copyright as published films. They weren't renewed so they are PD. This one is safe to upload.

The U.S. Copyright database is online, simply enter the series name and you'll find all (if any) copyrighted episodes in the series there for all U.S. shows between 1950 and 1963:

Until 1992, copyright holders were required to renew their copyrights after 28 years or the work fell into the public domain. Therefore the online copyright database contains all date on shows that were renewed between 1978 and 1991.

I checked and didn't find anything there. If I don't hear anything soon I might put it up later. Usually I upload feature films and I do check with USCO but sometimes a movie might be copyright even if no info shows up there. I'll play it safe for a while and wait before I do anything.

I just never asked him about that one. It's another show starring Gloria Talbott, on the same tape after Matinee Theatre.
